Minsoo Go is not your average Korean woman. She is bucking the stereotypical trend of Korean girls wanting ‘skinny’ and instead focusing on healthy, active living and being strong and fit. Minsoo is South Koreas first Bikini Pro and All-Star Champion who has experimented with fitness and the ability to change not only her body, but her mindset. In addition to recently trialing the Active8me Transformation program, she has just released her own book named ‘The Go Standard’ in which she talks about her philosophy around health and fitness – very similar to many of Active8me’s pillar philosophies. It is not your average fitness book, exploring case studies and mindset that underpins a successful approach to fitness. We get up close and personal behind the scenes, to find out her thoughts about the Active8me program and to learn more about her new book.
What is an overview of The Go Standard?
The Go Standard, is about creating a version of you that keeps improving. This is the standard you set for yourself. It’s about recognising you are in control of your body, direction, and focus without forcing yourself to be a skinny. I feel the true meaning of fitness has not yet been told in Asia. I want to spread the message across Asia that fitness naturally enhances your body and has the potential to build your confidence.
How do you think the Active8me transformation program ties in with the GO Standard?
I love that the Active8me vision of ‘Exercise. Nourish. Think. Transform͟’ drives the program and your success in creating a total mind-body connection to an active lifestyle. By following the Active8me transformation program, you are going to see change. The experts at Active8me also believe that good health is not about being skinny and the importance of education around health and fitness throughout Asia. The Active8me program will see you will grow stronger, be better connected with yourself, and you may even notice quite a few physical changes too (depending on where you are in your fitness journey).
What are your philosophies around fitness?
I focus on seven principles that are fundamental to achieving fitness goals. They include discipline, self-control, dedication, responsibility, sacrifice, and opportunity. Most are self-explanatory, but it’s important to highlight responsibility. You have a responsibility to take care of yourself. It impacts the world around you. If you do not care for yourself, or find that it is always more important to think of others, your own health falls apart. Using fitness and clean eating as a means to keep yourself healthy will see you stronger and more able to help those close to you.
How do you think the Active8me app ties in with the Minsoo Go fitness philosophies?
The Active8me app is so easy to use! It’s progressive, and keeps you right on track. This makes discipline and self-control easier. Life is full of choices, and the Active8me app gives you the flexibility and opportunity to choose your path. For example, you can choose different ways to complete each workout, as well as doing your workout anytime and anywhere (at home or the gym for example – which is awesome!). One thing the app doesn’t do, is confuse you. There’s nothing super-complicated about the workouts or the exercises. The videos and explanations make it very figure-out-able fitness. Overall, Active8me is an app you can use to make fitness a priority in your life and change your mind about fitness.
Why have you done so well with fitness?
It was never a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I can honestly say it wasn’t just pure luck. It had nothing to do with genetics. It certainly wasn’t never-ending hours at the gym. There were no so called “magic” pills that are commonplace in the industry. My fitness success hashappened because of the discipline I maintained and consistency that I created with something that I loved.
I also feel it was really refreshing that Active8me isn’t about selling you supplements or magic pills. That’s something I see over and over again with so many programs, and I’m happy to say there is no mention of it. Yes, you can have an active and healthy life without energy drinks and protein powders! The Active8me program is a great example of this, where the meals are clean, healthy, simple, and familiar for me seeing some traditional Asian dishes included. It’s great as that’s rare and difficult to find.
You’re quite adamant about changing perspective from skinny to fit and healthy, why is that?
So many women, especially here in South Korea, have a negative body image (even I did!). I stay fit and healthy because health equals wealth and I want women to know that there is a healthy, positive way to train and be your beautiful unique self.
What are 5 fitness or healthy living tips Minsoo swears by?
- Commit to fitness – Fitness is a lifestyle, not a weight loss program for your wedding. What I mean is, if you want the results to stick, you have to change your lifestyle.
- Focus on the basics – You don’t have to do anything fancy to get started. It’s all about healthy eating, getting enough rest, and trying to be worry free. That’s the basics, plus activity. Move your body the way it was designed.
- Make fitness fun and do what works for you – Programs like the Active8me transformation program give you expert guidance about nutrition, fitness and mindset without being restrictive. It has to cater to your needs.
- The sooner you start, the better – Think of fitness like saving money for retirement. The sooner you start, the better dividends it will pay. Start today!
- Follow one course until you succeed – Eat clean, be active and set your path. If you stick with it, you will eventually find success. I promise!
What’s some helpful advice for those who aren’t confident about improving fitness?
When questions come up, be curious and find out if anyone else is asking the same ones. Start answering the question, “Why not fitness?”. This is where the Active8me program is so useful, for all types of people. It sets you up for success from day one. It’s a community, which is important. You’re kept on track with weekly motivational videos, tracking measurements and goals, and will not let you forget what you need to do next. The app really holds you accountable, which is necessary for success. It tells you to ask others for help, and even has experts available for you to talk to.
