With the amount of bad press Carbs get, anyone would think they are an immediate threat to your life. The mixed messages we hear about carbs tend to lump all carbs into the same basket without the realisation that carbs are actually an essential macronutrient (along with protein and fat).
Carbohydrates are essential for your survival and found in highly nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, bread, rice, pasta and cereals. BUT they are also found in highly processed foods, like cakes, crisps, sodas and candy in the form of simple sugars.
